Libya’s Zueitina Oil Company Contains Limited Pipeline Leak, Says NOC

Libya’s Zueitina Oil Company (ZOC) has successfully contained what the National Oil Corporation (NOC) described as a “limited” leak on a 16-inch pipeline connecting the Sabah and Zella oilfields, with no environmental damage reported, as stated in a company release reported by Reuters.

The NOC confirmed that technical teams quickly repaired the affected section and verified there was no impact on surrounding agricultural areas. Oil flow is being restored gradually, and monitoring continues to ensure pipeline safety and prevent further incidents. “The situation is fully under control, and operations are returning to normal,” an NOC spokesperson said.

The event comes at a time when Libya’s oil sector remains vulnerable to disruptions due to ongoing political instability and maintenance challenges. Analysts note that while the leak was minor, it highlights the fragility of Libya’s oil infrastructure at a period when production stability is critical to government revenue, as highlighted by Bloomberg Africa.

Market observers suggest the swift response has helped ease concerns of broader supply interruptions. However, the incident underscores the ongoing need for investment in infrastructure security and modernization across Libya’s vital energy sector, Reuters added.
