Jhené Aiko has achieved the first Billboard 200 No. 1 album of her career after Westside Whimsy debuted at the top of the chart dated September 26, marking a major milestone nearly 13 years after she first entered the ranking with Sail Out. According to Billboard, the 20 track album generated 74,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending September 17. The performance gives Jhené Aiko her sixth Top 10 Billboard 200 project, while surpassing the No. 2 peak previously achieved by her 2020 album Chilombo.
Streaming drove the overwhelming majority of the album’s opening week, accounting for 70,000 equivalent units from 71.33 million official on demand streams, while traditional album sales contributed 3,500 units and track equivalent sales added another 500. Westside Whimsy, released on September 11 after being announced just three days earlier, is Aiko’s first full length studio album since Chilombo. The project features collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Ab Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA, expanding a catalogue that has consistently placed the Los Angeles born R&B singer among the genre’s prominent contemporary voices.
The achievement also carries wider significance for contemporary R&B, with Westside Whimsy becoming the first album by a female R&B artist to top the Billboard 200 in 2026 and the first R&B album to reach No. 1 since SZA’s SOS completed its final week at the summit in May 2025. Aiko’s journey from Sail Out in 2013 to her first chart topping album nearly 13 years later demonstrates the enduring commercial strength of her audience and catalogue. With the new project also debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums chart, Westside Whimsy adds a significant new chapter to Jhené Aiko’s career and reinforces streaming’s central role in determining success on the modern music charts.
