In 2013, Ujiri was appointed President of Basketball Operations for the Toronto Raptors, making him one of the few African-born executives to lead an NBA franchise at the highest level. Under his leadership, the Raptors became consistently competitive, culminating in the historic 2019 championship that solidified his reputation as a transformative executive. His approach extends beyond team success, focusing on organisational culture, international scouting, and the development of elite talent.

Beyond the NBA, Ujiri has invested in African sports development through the Giants of Africa Foundation, which he founded to promote basketball education, youth training, and social empowerment across the continent. The foundation has reached thousands of young athletes, providing coaching, mentorship, and access to sports infrastructure.

Ujiri’s leadership and impact have earned him recognition including NBA Executive of the Year awards and multiple humanitarian accolades for his contributions to sports development in Africa. His work has elevated African representation in professional sports, inspiring a generation of athletes and executives to pursue global opportunities.

Through his achievements both on and off the court, Masai Ujiri demonstrates how visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and social responsibility can intersect, making him a transformative figure in basketball and a trailblazer for African sports leadership.
