Suno Unveils New AI Music Models With Revenue Sharing for Artists and Labels

AI music company Suno has launched a new generation of music models developed with major industry partners, marking a significant shift toward licensed artificial intelligence music creation and revenue sharing with rights holders, according to Bloomberg. The new models were developed in partnership with Warner Music Group, BMG, Believe and TuneCore, with participating artists and labels able to opt in to new products and receive compensation for the use of their music.

The move represents a major change in Suno’s relationship with the traditional music industry, which has challenged AI music companies over copyright and the use of artists’ recordings and identities. Under the new partnerships, participating repertoire will be incorporated into Suno’s models under licensed arrangements, while artists who consent will be compensated and their rights protected. Financial terms of the revenue sharing arrangements have not been publicly disclosed.

Suno is also introducing stronger safeguards around its platform, including audio watermarking, fingerprinting and limits on downloads designed to reduce fraud and prevent users from mass distributing AI generated tracks to streaming services. The company has said its new models will replace previous generations, while existing creations will remain in users’ libraries.

The strategy could reshape the economics of generative music by moving the industry away from a model centred on unlicensed training and toward negotiated participation between AI platforms, artists and rights holders. With Suno already operating at significant scale, the partnerships with major labels and independent artist networks could establish a commercial framework in which AI generated music becomes another licensed revenue channel rather than simply a source of conflict for the global music business.
