Tinubu Renews Appointment of Prof. Ayo Omotayo as NIPSS Director-General

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, for a final four-year term. The announcement was made in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as reported by Channels Television.

Omotayo was first appointed Director-General of NIPSS in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the appointment later confirmed by the Senate in February 2022. His renewal ensures continuity in the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost policy and strategic research institution.

A professor of environmental sustainability, Omotayo earned his PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan after completing his studies there between 1980 and 1990. He began his academic career at Lagos State University in 1985, rising to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 1992 and later serving as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017, before becoming Director of the university’s Centre for Planning.

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru near Jos in Plateau State, serves as Nigeria’s apex policy think tank, providing strategic research and leadership training for senior public officials, military officers and private-sector leaders through programmes such as the Senior Executive Course, as highlighted by The Nation.
