Semuliki National Park: Uganda’s Hidden Realm of Biodiversity

Tucked away in western Uganda along the Congo Basin, Semuliki National Park is a haven of tropical lowland rainforest unlike any other in East Africa. Spanning over 220 square kilometers, it is home to extraordinary wildlife, including forest elephants, chimpanzees, rare bird species, and the unique hot springs of Sempaya.

The park is often called a “birder’s paradise,” boasting more than 440 bird species, many of which are found nowhere else in Uganda. Visitors can trek through lush trails, experience guided nature walks, and witness the bubbling geothermal wonders that make Semuliki a geological as well as ecological marvel.

As one of Uganda’s less-traveled destinations, Semuliki National Park offers a rare opportunity for immersion in pristine wilderness, an enchanting blend of discovery, serenity, and natural wonder.
