Samsung Unveils Premium Foldable Smartphones With Higher Prices Amid AI Push

Samsung Electronics has launched a new generation of premium foldable smartphones with higher price tags, reinforcing its leadership in the foldable device market as it expands artificial intelligence capabilities across its mobile ecosystem. According to Reuters and ChannelsTv, the South Korean technology giant introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8 during its Galaxy Unpacked event in London. The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899, the Fold8 Ultra at $2,099, and the Flip8 at $1,199, representing a $100 increase over the previous generation as rising memory chip costs push up production expenses.

The latest devices feature Samsung’s new Flex Titanium display technology, designed to improve durability and reduce crease visibility, alongside enhanced AI capabilities powered by Google’s Gemini platform. The Fold8 introduces a wider, passport-sized design aimed at delivering a better experience for video consumption and multitasking, while the premium Fold8 Ultra adds a 200-megapixel camera, a larger battery, and upgraded performance. Samsung said the new lineup represents the next phase of its AI-first mobile strategy, integrating more personalised and adaptive experiences across its foldable portfolio.

Samsung’s latest launch comes as competition in the foldable smartphone market intensifies, with Apple widely expected to introduce its first foldable device later this year. Although global smartphone shipments are forecast to decline by around 14% in 2026, research firm IDC expects foldable smartphone shipments to grow by approximately 20%, reflecting continued consumer interest in premium mobile devices. Industry analysts noted that while Samsung remains the pioneer in the category, meaningful innovation beyond larger displays will be essential to justify higher prices and defend its market leadership.

For Samsung, the new foldable lineup represents one of its most strategically important product launches in recent years. Analysts say the combination of advanced display technology, stronger AI integration, and continued investment in premium hardware positions the company to strengthen its competitive advantage in the fast-growing foldable segment, even as higher component costs and intensifying competition place greater pressure on pricing and innovation.
