Nigerian Stars Win Big at 2026 BAFTA Film Awards

Nigerian and British Nigerian creatives delivered standout moments at the British Academy Film Awards held in London on February 22, 2026, securing major wins and drawing global attention to African storytelling, as reported by Channels Television.

British Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sinners, earning praise for a performance widely described as powerful and emotionally layered, according to The Irish News. Her victory placed her ahead of a competitive field and marked one of the night’s most celebrated moments.

Filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr., alongside collaborator Wale Davies, also clinched the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer award for My Father’s Shadow, a culturally rooted film that has gained international acclaim since its festival run.

The achievements underscore the rising global influence of Nigerian talent within mainstream cinema, reflecting a broader shift toward diverse narratives and cross-cultural storytelling in major award circuits. Industry observers say the wins signal continued momentum for Nigerian creatives on the world stage.
