Kola Adesina Driving Africa’s Energy Revolution and Corporate Leadership

Kola Adesina has established himself as one of Africa’s foremost business leaders, combining strategic vision, operational expertise, and a commitment to national development. As Group Managing Director of Sahara Group, he has been at the forefront of transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape, strengthening infrastructure, and improving access to reliable electricity for millions across the continent.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance and a Master’s in Business from the University of Lagos, complemented by executive programs at Harvard Business School and The Wharton School of Management. At Sahara Group, Adesina oversees strategic operations that span multiple energy assets, including Egbin Power Plc, Ikeja Electric, and First Independent Power Limited. Under his stewardship, these companies have strengthened their service delivery, improved infrastructure, and enhanced their contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.

Beyond Sahara Group, Adesina holds several high-profile leadership roles. He serves as chairman of Egbin Power Plc and Ikeja Electric, and in 2023, he was appointed Chairman of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, expanding his influence into financial services. These positions demonstrate his versatility and ability to impact diverse sectors through strategic governance and visionary leadership.

Adesina’s contributions extend to national energy policy and sector reforms. He has served on the Presidential Committee on the Accelerated Expansion of Electricity Infrastructure, helping to shape initiatives that modernized Nigeria’s power sector and promoted private sector participation. His efforts have made him a trusted voice on energy development, sustainability, and corporate governance in Africa.

Recognition for his work reflects both national and sector-wide appreciation. He was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth. In 2025, he received an Honorary Doctorate (D.Sc) from the University of Lagos and was named Energy Icon of the Year by Energy Times, highlighting his leadership and transformative impact in the energy sector.

Beyond his executive responsibilities, Adesina is committed to mentoring young professionals and supporting initiatives that foster innovation, human capital development, and regional integration. His approach blends corporate strategy with social responsibility, demonstrating that sustainable leadership extends beyond financial success to creating broader societal value.
