IMF, Gabon Hold Talks on Economic Development and Reform Plan

The International Monetary Fund has held discussions with authorities in Gabon on the country’s economic outlook and policy priorities, focusing on reforms aimed at strengthening growth and macroeconomic stability, according to Reuters.

An IMF staff team met with government officials in Libreville to review recent macroeconomic developments and assess policy measures intended to support Gabon’s broader economic development agenda. The discussions centred on reforms to improve fiscal management, strengthen governance, and promote sustainable economic expansion.

The IMF also emphasised the importance of prudent fiscal and financial policies to safeguard macroeconomic stability in Gabon and across the Central African region. As cited by MarketScreener, the fund said policy dialogue with Gabonese authorities will continue in the coming weeks, including during upcoming international meetings.

Gabon has stepped up engagement with the IMF as it seeks to enhance economic management and implement structural reforms, although the government has not yet formally requested an IMF financing programme, MarketScreener noted.
