Eko Hotel & Suites has celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand gala in Lagos, bringing together political leaders, business executives, entertainment figures and distinguished guests to commemorate five decades of hospitality excellence. Held on October 2, 2026, at the hotel’s Convention Centre, the golden jubilee celebration reflected the institution’s enduring position within Lagos’ business, social and cultural landscape. According to Punch, more than 1,000 guests attended the event, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, actress Kate Henshaw and Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha.
The evening combined elaborate décor, live entertainment and tributes to the people and organisations that have contributed to the hotel’s journey. Nigerian singer Flavour and international music star Wyclef Jean performed at the celebration, while comedian Bovi and actress Osas Ighodaro hosted the gala. Reporting for THISDAY, Vanessa Obioha described the Convention Centre’s transformation with blue and gold decorations, theatrical presentations and performances by hotel staff. Chairman Christopher Chagoury paid tribute to his father, Gilbert Chagoury, who founded the hotel, and his uncle Ronald Chagoury, acknowledging the relationships and support that have sustained the business over the decades. The hotel also presented recognition awards to selected partners and organisations that have been part of its history.
Beyond the spectacle, the anniversary underscored Eko Hotel & Suites’ contribution to Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism industries. Over the years, the property has become a prominent destination for corporate conferences, international gatherings, concerts, weddings and high-profile social occasions, helping position Lagos as a hub for business and entertainment. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also recognised the hotel’s place in the state’s development, particularly its connections to tourism, the creative economy and employment. As the institution enters its next chapter, the golden jubilee represents both a celebration of its legacy and a reminder of the investment, service standards and continued innovation required to remain competitive in Africa’s evolving hospitality market.
