Fola David to Lead 1,000 Children in Guinness World Record Art Attempt in Lagos

Nigerian medical doctor and visual artist Fola David is preparing to lead more than 1,000 children in an ambitious attempt to set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest fabric marbling painting. The initiative, titled Colors of Possibility, is scheduled for 11 November 2026 at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, bringing together children from public schools, private schools, vocational centres and the wider community to create one continuous artwork. According to The Punch, the project aims to promote creativity, inclusion and collaboration by giving each participant an opportunity to contribute to a collective artistic achievement. The organisers are targeting an artwork measuring 150 square metres, surpassing the current Guinness World Records benchmark of 128.36 square metres, achieved by Egyptian artist Rasha Morgan in Cairo on 12 November 2022.

The project extends David’s record-breaking journey from individual achievement to collective creativity. In July 2024, he created a drawing measuring 1,004.7 square metres, earning the Guinness World Records title for the largest drawing by an individual. His artwork, The Unity of Diversity, celebrated Nigeria’s cultural heritage through a representation of the country’s diversity. With Colors of Possibility, the artist is placing children at the centre of another large-scale creative undertaking, including participants with additional needs. Under his artistic direction, the children will use fabric marbling techniques to produce a shared composition, demonstrating how individual expressions can combine to create a larger work.

Beyond the record attempt, Colors of Possibility includes a ₦10 million Creative Fund intended to support children’s creative potential. The initiative is powered by 78MFB and has received reported support from the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Federal Ministry of Education. By combining a public art event with a dedicated fund for young talent, the project seeks to extend its impact beyond the stadium, encouraging artistic exploration, confidence and teamwork. The record remains an objective rather than an achievement at this stage, with the final result subject to Guinness World Records’ verification process. If successful, the attempt would give more than 1,000 children a shared place in Nigeria’s growing record of international creative accomplishments.
