Citi Turns Bullish on Ford as Analyst Sees Stock Rally Gathering Momentum

Ford Motor has gained a prominent new supporter on Wall Street after Citigroup upgraded the automaker’s shares to “Buy” from “Neutral”, arguing that the stock’s recent rally still has significant room to run. According to Bloomberg, Citi analyst Michael Ward raised his price target to $20 per share, citing improving profitability, stronger production of Ford’s flagship F-Series pickup trucks and a more favourable cost environment following the company’s stronger than expected second quarter earnings.

The bullish outlook follows Ford’s decision to raise its full year 2026 earnings guidance after reporting adjusted earnings per share that exceeded market expectations. Citi said the company is benefiting from recovering F-Series production, easing warranty costs, improved aluminium supply and moderating material prices, while growth in software subscriptions and its emerging energy storage business could provide additional long term earnings opportunities. The brokerage also increased its earnings forecasts for 2026 through 2028, reflecting greater confidence in Ford’s financial trajectory.

The upgrade signals a notable shift in investor sentiment toward Ford after years of lagging behind rivals in Wall Street recommendations. For investors, Citi’s optimism suggests the company is entering a stronger operational phase driven by disciplined cost management, resilient demand for its profitable truck portfolio and diversification beyond traditional vehicle manufacturing. The positive outlook also reinforces confidence in Ford’s ability to improve margins while navigating the industry’s transition toward electrification and energy services.

Looking ahead, Ford’s ability to sustain its momentum will depend on executing its production plans, maintaining pricing power and delivering on its updated earnings guidance. Continued improvement in its core truck business, alongside expansion into software and energy solutions, could further strengthen investor confidence and support the stock’s longer term performance.
