Kenya Tourism Board Strikes Deal with Visa to Boost Travel Spending

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has signed a partnership with global payments company Visa aimed at stimulating travel spending and strengthening the country’s tourism sector. The agreement, announced on Monday, will focus on joint marketing campaigns and the enhancement of digital payment systems to make travel more seamless for visitors, Reuters reported.

As part of the arrangement, Visa will provide KTB with access to its Government Insights Hub, a platform offering real-time analytics on travel behavior, consumer spending patterns, and seasonal peaks. Officials said these insights will help design targeted promotions that can drive both domestic and international arrivals, the announcement outlined.

The deal reflects a growing trend of fintech integration in Kenya’s tourism strategy. In 2022, Mastercard signed a similar memorandum of understanding with KTB to support destination marketing and planning through data-driven solutions, Mastercard’s newsroom detailed.

Analysts argue that such partnerships could play a vital role in boosting receipts in a sector that contributes roughly 10% of Kenya’s GDP, particularly as the country seeks to position itself as a leading global travel destination.
