Serena Williams is set to make her US Open comeback alongside Carlos Alcaraz, after the pair received a wildcard into the 2026 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, as reported by CBS News and Reuters. It will be Williams’ first appearance at Flushing Meadows since 2022 and another major chapter in her return to competitive tennis.
The 44 year old American is a 23 time Grand Slam singles champion and six time US Open singles winner, while Alcaraz enters the tournament as the reigning US Open men’s singles champion. The Spaniard is also returning from a right wrist injury that has kept him out of competition since April.
The pairing brings together two generations of tennis excellence. Williams previously won the US Open mixed doubles title in 1998 with Max Mirnyi, while Alcaraz made his Grand Slam mixed doubles debut at the 2025 US Open alongside Emma Raducanu.
Their first round opponent will come from the qualifying draw, with the mixed doubles main draw beginning Tuesday, August 25. The tournament features several other blockbuster pairings, including Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, making the revamped event one of the major attractions of US Open Fan Week.
