Nigeria’s photography scene is entering a more expressive and globally connected era, driven by women who are redefining how people, culture, fashion, leadership and everyday life are documented. From luxury weddings and portraits to documentary storytelling and visual communication, these photographers are building distinctive identities while expanding the possibilities of the Nigerian creative industry.
1. Afam Jubilee (JB Afam)
Afam Jubilee, popularly known as JB Afam, is a Nigerian photographer and creative educator whose work extends beyond creating images into building the next generation of photographers. Through her photography training and mentorship initiatives, she has become a recognised voice among emerging creatives, helping photographers strengthen both their technical skills and understanding of the business of photography. Her growing influence reflects the new generation of Nigerian photographers combining creative practice with education and community building.
2. Yagazie Eguare, GazMadu Studios
Yagazie Eguare is the founder and lead creative of GazMadu Studios, a premium Nigerian photography brand known for portraits, documentary photography and visual storytelling. After moving into photography professionally, she built a strong reputation around emotionally driven imagery and later expanded her impact through creative education. Her GazMadu Education initiative has trained thousands of photographers and creative professionals, while her Arts, Business and Creativity platform continues to promote the development of Africa’s creative economy.
3. Nicole Adehi, VALEO Photography
Nicole Adehi is the founder of VALEO Photography, a luxury and destination wedding photography brand specialising in multicultural love stories. With more than a decade of experience and hundreds of weddings photographed across Nigeria, Canada, the United States and beyond, Adehi has developed a visual style centred on emotion, authenticity and cultural detail. She has also contributed to the development of the photography community through teaching and creative workshops, extending her influence beyond client work.
4. Tolani Alli
Tolani Alli is an award winning photographer, visual storyteller and creative director whose career has taken her from documenting political leadership in Nigeria to telling stories across major global institutions and development platforms. She previously served as personal photographer to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and today works as Executive Creative Adviser and Digital Storyteller to African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina. In 2026, Alli expanded her contribution to the creative community through The HaTricks Masterclass, sharing her approach to photography, visual storytelling and professional excellence with emerging creatives.
5. Taiwo Aina
Taiwo Aina is a Lagos and Abuja based visual storyteller and photojournalist whose work documents real life experiences and important social issues across Nigeria and Africa. Her photography explores subjects including women’s empowerment, sports, agriculture and entrepreneurship, with commissions and collaborations involving The New York Times, CNN, Reuters, UNICEF and other international organisations. Her documentary work has also earned international recognition, including a Women Photograph grant supporting her project on female boxers in Lagos.
Methodology
The selection focuses on Nigerian female photographers whose work demonstrates distinctive visual storytelling, professional growth, creative influence and contribution to the evolving photography ecosystem. Consideration was given to photographers working across documentary, portrait, luxury, commercial and creative photography, as well as those expanding their influence through education, mentorship and international collaborations.
