Governor Alex Otti Commissions Upgraded 5MVA Power Plant, Expands Infrastructure at ABSU

Governor Alex Otti has commissioned an upgraded 5MVA power substation at Abia State University, marking a major step toward restoring stable electricity and improving infrastructure across the institution, according to nairametrics.

The facility, upgraded from 2.5MVA, is designed to deliver reliable power across the campus through multiple distribution points, ensuring that once supply is available from the national grid, the entire university benefits from improved electricity access.

Speaking during the commissioning, Otti described the project as a “promise fulfilled,” noting that the power system will not only serve the university but also extend electricity to surrounding communities, boosting socio-economic activity in the area .

Beyond the power project, the governor also commissioned rehabilitated student hostels and flagged off new developments, including a 5,000-capacity female hostel and additional faculty buildings, reinforcing his administration’s focus on upgrading education infrastructure and student welfare.
