Oiza x Meyi are one of Nigeria’s most exciting contemporary music duos, celebrated for their seamless harmonies, rich storytelling, and refreshing fusion of Afropop, alternative soul, folk, and indigenous African influences. Comprising identical twin sisters Eucharia Ojotule “Oiza” Abu and Eugenia Unekuojo “Meyi” Abu, the pair have carved out a distinctive space in Nigeria’s music industry with a sound that is authentic, emotionally resonant, and unmistakably their own. Their artistry has positioned them among the country’s most promising alternative music acts, earning admiration from audiences, fellow musicians, and industry leaders alike.

Born on 17 December 1998, Oiza and Meyi hail from Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State and were raised in Abuja. They are the daughters of veteran Nigerian broadcaster, journalist, and author Eugenia Abu. Growing up in a creatively inclined household, the sisters developed a passion for music from an early age. Oiza studied Theatre and Performing Arts, while Meyi specialized in Industrial Design (Textiles). Their complementary talents extended beyond music, with Oiza exploring acting and performance while Meyi became a self-taught guitarist, songwriter, and visual artist, skills that would later shape their unique musical identity.
Their rise to prominence began in 2020 when videos of the sisters singing in their bathroom went viral across social media. The natural acoustics of the space, combined with their effortless vocal chemistry and creative song arrangements, quickly captured public attention. Their performances attracted praise from notable figures, while CNN highlighted them among Nigeria’s emerging music talents. Since then, they have evolved from viral sensations into respected recording artists, known for writing their own music and delivering performances that blend lyrical depth with captivating melodies.

Oiza x Meyi officially launched their recording career with “Santi” in 2022, a single that showcased their Afrocentric storytelling and songwriting ability. They have since expanded their catalogue with songs including Outside, Vote, Eko, Jealousy, Mumu Na Forever, Unstable, Bounce, and the 2026 collaboration Love Letter featuring Lali X Lola. Their music has also featured on notable projects such as A Ghetto Love Story, The Feast, and Break Time, demonstrating their versatility across genres while remaining true to their signature vocal style.
Throughout their journey, the sisters have shared stages with some of Africa’s biggest names. They have opened performances for Wizkid, Asa, and Waje, while also collaborating with acclaimed musicians and producers. Asa, one of their greatest inspirations, famously gifted Meyi one of her guitars after witnessing the duo’s talent, a gesture that reflected the industry’s growing recognition of their artistry. Their collaborations and live performances continue to strengthen their reputation as one of Nigeria’s most compelling live acts.

Their growing influence extends beyond music. Oiza x Meyi have become sought-after ambassadors for lifestyle and cultural brands, reflecting their authenticity and strong connection with young audiences. In 2025, they were unveiled as ambassadors for Grant’s Whisky, joining the brand’s “Crew Nights” campaign celebrating creativity, collaboration, and togetherness. Their story has also been highlighted as an example of how genuine partnership and shared vision can transform artistic ambition into lasting success.

Today, Oiza x Meyi stand at the forefront of Nigeria’s alternative music movement. By blending heartfelt songwriting, exceptional harmonies, and contemporary African sounds, they continue to redefine what a modern African music duo can achieve. Their journey from intimate bathroom performances to national recognition illustrates the enduring power of authenticity, creativity, and sisterhood, inspiring a new generation of artists to embrace originality while remaining rooted in their identity.
