African Airlines Record Fastest Global Passenger Growth on Routes to Asia, Europe, and Middle East

Airlines across Africa have recorded the fastest passenger traffic growth globally, driven by rising travel demand on major international routes linking the continent with Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. According to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), African carriers posted about 7.8 percent passenger traffic growth in 2025, outperforming most other global regions as connectivity and demand continued to expand, industry reports cited by Ecofin Agency show.

The strongest gains were recorded on the Africa–Asia corridor, which saw double-digit growth of roughly 15.9 percent year-on-year, reflecting strengthening trade, tourism, and business links between the two regions, according to IATA data reported by ATC News. Traffic between Africa and Europe, the continent’s largest aviation market, also continued to expand, while routes linking Africa with the Middle East benefited from rising commercial travel and religious tourism flows.

Business Insider Africa says the surge highlights Africa’s growing integration into global travel networks, supported by expanding airline routes, stronger economic ties with international partners, and gradual improvements in aviation infrastructure across the continent, according to industry analysis published by the International Air Transport Association.
