United States Expands Military and Intelligence Cooperation With Nigeria

The United States is deepening military and intelligence cooperation with Nigeria, strengthening bilateral efforts to combat terrorism and improve regional security. The expanded engagement includes enhanced intelligence sharing, equipment support and operational coordination, particularly against extremist groups operating in northern Nigeria, as reported by Business Insider Africa.

U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said it is providing Nigeria with additional military equipment and logistical support, while accelerating arms approvals and intelligence collaboration. Nigerian officials say the renewed cooperation has improved situational awareness and operational effectiveness in counter-terrorism missions.

The move follows recent high-level security engagements between both countries and reflects Washington’s broader strategy to support key African partners in addressing instability and violent extremism. A joint working framework has also been established to sustain long-term cooperation and streamline defence collaboration.

CNBC Africa says the expanded partnership underscores Nigeria’s strategic importance in West Africa’s security architecture and signals growing U.S. commitment to supporting African-led security solutions amid rising regional threats.
