Mwamvita Makamba is a Tanzanian entrepreneur, investor, strategic advisor and author whose work spans technology, business development, digital transformation and Pan-African storytelling. With more than 15 years of experience across the telecommunications and technology sectors, she has built a career around connecting businesses, people and opportunities across African markets. As Founder and Chairperson of MMConnect Africa Group and the founder of The Africa I Know, Makamba is pursuing a vision that combines enterprise development with a broader commitment to Africa’s economic participation, social progress and global narrative. Her journey reflects a transition from influencing the continent’s development through established institutions to building ventures designed to address its evolving needs.

A significant part of Makamba’s professional journey was shaped by her 14-year career within the Vodacom and Vodafone ecosystem. During this period, she held senior leadership responsibilities across corporate affairs, external relations, enterprise sales and Pan-African business development. Her work involved engaging governments, businesses and development partners to advance technology-led solutions across multiple African markets. She also served on the Vodafone Group Foundation Board of Trustees for more than a decade, contributing to initiatives that used technology to address social and humanitarian challenges. One notable programme associated with her tenure was M-Mama, an emergency transport initiative designed to improve access to lifesaving maternal healthcare for women and newborns in underserved communities. After leaving Vodacom in 2023, Makamba redirected her experience towards building independent ventures with a stronger entrepreneurial focus.
That transition led to the development of MMConnect Africa Group, a Pan-African technology group headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a presence across Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria. Under Makamba’s leadership, the group is developing businesses across financial inclusion, mobility, energy access and sustainability. Its portfolio includes Kuza Capital, which focuses on accessible financing for individuals and small businesses; Tiketika, a digital ticketing and travel platform; Jibusti Energies, which provides energy solutions; and MMCarbon, which connects environmental assets with opportunities in the carbon economy. The broader ambition is to build practical systems around everyday economic needs, particularly in markets where access to finance, reliable energy and digital services remains uneven. Rather than approaching technology as an end in itself, Makamba’s model places emphasis on commercially viable solutions that can expand access and create measurable value for communities.

Beyond business and investment, Makamba has established herself as an advocate for African storytelling and cultural representation. Through The Africa I Know, she is developing a Pan-African media platform dedicated to presenting the continent through the experiences, achievements and perspectives of its people. The initiative features city stories, everyday innovators and conversations with influential Africans through its The Great Africans series. Hosted by Makamba, the series has featured conversations with personalities including Zambian entrepreneur Monica Musonda, investor and presidential advisor Jito Kayumba, and South African business leader Dr Mzamo Masito. The platform is built around the philosophy of Ubuntu, highlighting the interconnectedness of African communities and the contributions of people working to advance the continent. Its underlying proposition is that Africa’s story should be told with greater ownership, context and authenticity by Africans themselves.
Her interest in leadership and the next generation is also reflected in her writing. Makamba is the author of Things I Tell My Daughter, a collection of reflections, lessons and personal insights inspired by her upbringing and experiences as a mother. The book explores values, personal development and the responsibility of preparing young women to navigate an increasingly complex world. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration and a master’s degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Dar es Salaam, alongside an advanced executive programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria. These experiences have informed a career that brings together institutional leadership, entrepreneurship, investment and mentorship.

Mwamvita Makamba’s work is ultimately connected by a conviction that Africa’s progress requires more than identifying its challenges; it requires building the systems, businesses and narratives that enable its people to shape their own future. Through MMConnect Africa Group, she is investing in practical solutions across essential sectors, while The Africa I Know provides a platform for celebrating the people and ideas driving change across the continent. Together, these initiatives reflect a broader vision of African development rooted in local understanding, enterprise, collaboration and shared prosperity. As her ventures continue to develop across markets, Makamba is building a legacy that brings business leadership and Pan-African purpose into the same conversation.
