Meet Yemi Kings The Visual Storyteller Turning Moments Into Timeless Art

Yemi Kings, born Opeyemi Femi-Oke, is a multiple award winning visual storyteller, fine art portrait photographer, filmmaker, creative entrepreneur, speaker, and mentor whose work has helped redefine portrait photography in Nigeria. Renowned for his ability to capture emotion, identity, and human stories through compelling imagery, he has built a reputation as one of the country’s most sought after portrait photographers while inspiring a new generation of creatives through education and mentorship.

From an early age, Yemi Kings knew he wanted to create art. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he was fascinated by creativity and visual expression, a passion that would eventually evolve into a successful career behind the camera. Determined to master his craft, he trained under respected photographers including Olakunle Akinterinwa of Fullhouse Photo Studio, Seun Akinsanmi of EloPhotos Academy, and Ria Solanke. These formative experiences helped shape his artistic approach and technical expertise, laying the foundation for a career built on excellence and innovation.

Inspired by globally respected creatives such as TY Bello, Sue Bryce, Paulina Duczman, and Felix Kunze, Yemi Kings developed a signature style that combines simplicity, elegance, and storytelling. His work is widely recognized for its timeless quality, transforming portraits into powerful visual narratives that celebrate individuality and human connection.

Over the years, he has built an impressive portfolio spanning corporate, cultural, and documentary photography. His lens has captured influential personalities including the Emir of Bauchi, while his commercial work has served leading organizations and brands such as Access Bank, Pepsi, HOTR, and City Scope Africa. Beyond commissioned projects, he has documented countless stories across weddings, concerts, conferences, and everyday life in Nigeria, preserving moments that reflect the country’s rich cultural landscape.

His commitment to professional growth led him to attend the Canon Academy in Abuja, further strengthening his expertise in photography and visual communication. He later became a respected educator and industry leader, serving as a speaker and trainer at the Nigerian Photography Expo and Conference (NIPHEC). His leadership within the industry was further recognized when he was appointed Coordinator of NIPHEC 2020, one of Nigeria’s most significant photography gatherings.

Yemi Kings’ influence extends beyond photography through education and mentorship. He established his own media and photography academy in Lagos with a mission to equip young Nigerians with practical creative skills and entrepreneurial knowledge. Through training programs, mentorship initiatives, and workshops, he has helped hundreds of aspiring photographers and creatives develop sustainable careers while contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy. An industry profile described his platform as one of the largest photography mentorship communities on the continent.

His contributions have earned notable recognition over the years. Among his achievements, Yemi Kings emerged as a winner at the TFAA  Awards 2023, further affirming his standing within Nigeria’s creative industry. He is also the host of The Focal Point Podcast, a platform where he shares insights on creativity, entrepreneurship, personal development, and the evolving opportunities within the creative sector.

As his influence continues to grow across photography, filmmaking, and creative education, Yemi Kings remains committed to building a legacy rooted in excellence, impact, and the belief that creativity can be a catalyst for both personal and societal transformation.
