Meet Tolu Afilaka The Media Creative Turning Conversations Into Influence

Tolu Afilaka is building a distinctive place for himself in Africa’s evolving media landscape, combining storytelling, entrepreneurship, comedy, content creation and business strategy into a career built around one central idea: meaningful conversations can create meaningful influence. A Nigerian media entrepreneur, executive, investor, speaker, storyteller and stand up comedian, Tolu Afilaka has become known for sitting across from founders, creatives, policymakers, entertainers and changemakers to uncover the experiences and ideas behind their success.

As the host of That’s My Time, Tolu Afilaka has developed a long form interview platform that gives guests room to move beyond headlines and discuss the decisions, failures, convictions and experiences that have shaped their journeys. His conversations have featured personalities from business, entertainment, faith, culture and public life, while his broader podcast work has generated more than four million YouTube views and over 714,000 watch hours across a community spanning 82 countries. His ability to make complex stories accessible while maintaining an engaging conversational style has become an important part of his appeal within Africa’s digital media space.

Beyond the microphone, Tolu Afilaka has built experience across the business and creative sides of media. He previously served as CEO of Joy, Inc., where he supported platforms including #WithChude, and now serves as Creative Business Manager at Café One Studios, helping develop a space where creators, businesses and communities can produce and exchange ideas. His professional portfolio also extends into investing, brand strategy, growth and entrepreneurship, allowing him to understand the media ecosystem not only as a storyteller but also from the perspective of business development.

His versatility is perhaps most evident in the way he moves between different forms of communication. Tolu Afilaka is equally comfortable moderating a business conversation, interviewing an entertainer, speaking to an audience, creating viral content or stepping onto a comedy stage. That range has allowed him to build a personal brand that does not depend on a single medium. Instead, he has turned his personality, curiosity and understanding of people into a creative asset that can travel across podcasts, live events, social media, corporate platforms and entertainment.

That evolution is now entering a new chapter with Tolu Afilaka Live, his maiden live podcast experience in Lagos on 17 October 2026 at Celebr8 Centre HQ in Ikeja. The event will bring together live podcast conversations, storytelling, comedy, music, audience interaction and special appearances, creating a physical extension of the community he has built through digital media. Rather than simply recording another podcast episode, Tolu Afilaka is taking the conversations that have defined his career and transforming them into a live experience.

Tolu Afilaka’s journey reflects the changing nature of African media, where the boundaries between host, creator, entrepreneur, entertainer and executive are increasingly fluid. His strength lies in his ability to create spaces where people with stories worth hearing can connect with audiences that want more than surface level conversations. From digital platforms to corporate spaces and now a live stage of his own, Afilaka is building more than a media career. He is building a platform around conversation, culture and the people shaping Africa’s next chapter.
