Madagascar President showcases 300 kg gemstone found in presidential palace

Madagascar’s military-led government has revealed a 300-kilogram gemstone discovered in the former presidential palace, drawing attention both locally and internationally. The stone, whose type and estimated value have not been fully disclosed, was presented publicly by the country’s ruling authorities as a symbol of assets recovered following the recent political upheaval, according to AFP.

“The discovery highlights the need for transparency and proper management of national resources,” said Colonel Richard Ravalomanana, a spokesperson for the transitional government, as reported by Reuters.

Authorities have indicated that the gemstone will be evaluated by experts to determine its market value and potential use in the national treasury. Analysts note that Madagascar’s mineral wealth has often been a point of contention, and the find could become a focal point in ongoing discussions about governance and resource management in the country.

The announcement follows months of political tension after the military assumed control, with international observers monitoring developments closely.
