London Honours Gambian Fashion Designer Aminata Jarju With Prestigious African Designer Award

Gambian fashion designer and entrepreneur Aminata Jarju is set to receive the African Fashion Designer Award in London, a recognition that highlights her growing influence in promoting West African fashion on the global stage. According to The Nigerian Voice, the founder and creative director of Amina’s Fashion Sengambia will be formally honoured during the 15th edition of the Voice Achievers Award, scheduled to take place on August 21, 2026, at the Hilton Kensington Hotel in London.

The award recognizes Jarju’s contribution to African fashion through designs that blend traditional Senegambian and Malian textiles with contemporary styles. As highlighted by event organizers, her work has helped showcase West African craftsmanship to international audiences while preserving cultural heritage through modern fashion. Over the years, Amina’s Fashion Sengambia has expanded its presence beyond The Gambia and Senegal, participating in fashion exhibitions and runway showcases across markets including China, Turkey, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates.

In addition to her role in fashion, Jarju serves as Chief Executive Officer of Amina’s Fashion Sengambia and as the Representative Director for The Gambia at the Czech-Gambian Chamber of Commerce. EIN News reported that her work has extended beyond fashion into trade promotion and business development, helping strengthen commercial ties and investment opportunities between The Gambia and international partners.

The recognition is being celebrated as a significant achievement for Gambian and West African fashion, reflecting the increasing global visibility of African designers and creative brands. Industry observers note that awards of this nature help elevate African fashion on international platforms while creating new opportunities for designers, artisans, and cultural entrepreneurs. The London ceremony is expected to bring together fashion leaders, buyers, and members of the African diaspora to celebrate excellence, innovation, and cultural impact within the industry.
