Ghana launches e-visa platform and waives fees for African travellers

Ghana has launched a new electronic visa system and announced visa fee waivers for African travellers in a major shift aimed at strengthening regional integration, tourism, and business mobility across the continent. Government officials said the reforms form part of broader efforts to modernise border management and improve travel access into Ghana, according to Modern Ghana and Business Insider Africa.

The new e-visa platform is expected to simplify application processes, reduce waiting times, and improve digital immigration services for visitors. Authorities also confirmed that African passport holders will benefit from reduced travel barriers through waived visa fees, a move analysts say could encourage tourism, trade, investment, and intra-African movement.

The policy aligns with wider continental integration goals promoted under the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area framework, which seek to improve mobility and economic cooperation across African economies. Several African countries have increasingly adopted visa-free or simplified entry policies in recent years to boost regional connectivity.

Industry observers note that easier travel access could strengthen Ghana’s position as a major regional hub for business, culture, conferences, and tourism in West Africa. They add that digital immigration systems and friendlier border policies are becoming increasingly important as African governments compete to attract investors, entrepreneurs, and international visitors.
