Israel Boosts Nigeria’s Emergency Healthcare With First Ambulance and Medical Equipment Donation

The Israeli government has delivered the first batch of ambulances, medical equipment and wheelchairs to Nigeria, marking a new step in the growing healthcare partnership between the two countries, according to THISDAY and Premium Times. The consignment was handed over at the Port of Ashdod in Israel by Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service, and received on behalf of Nigeria by Ambassador Nkechi Ufochukwu.

The shipment includes fully equipped ambulances, modern medical devices and mobility aids, which are expected to be deployed to hospitals and emergency centres across Nigeria. The equipment is intended to strengthen emergency response, patient transportation and disaster preparedness, particularly in underserved communities where access to emergency medical services remains limited.

The donation follows an earlier commitment by Israel to provide state of the art ambulances and expand cooperation with Nigeria in healthcare, including medical training and technical support. In July, Israel’s ambassador to Nigeria said the country would donate three ambulances while continuing to support Nigerian doctors and healthcare initiatives.

For Nigeria, the initiative could provide a practical boost to emergency healthcare capacity while deepening bilateral cooperation in healthcare, humanitarian assistance and technology transfer. Ambassador Ufochukwu described the donation as a demonstration of friendship and solidarity between both countries, with the equipment expected to contribute to a more resilient healthcare system.
