European Investment Bank Pledges Over €2 Billion for African Renewables Projects

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed more than €2 billion to finance renewable energy projects across Africa, aiming to accelerate the continent’s transition to sustainable power, according to the bank’s official statement. The funding will target solar, wind, and hydroelectric initiatives in countries with growing energy needs.

EIB Vice President Ambroise Fayolle said the investment underscores Europe’s commitment to supporting Africa’s clean energy ambitions and economic growth. “This funding will help bridge the energy gap, promote industrialization, and create jobs,” he added, as reported by Bloomberg.

Analysts note that Africa’s renewable energy sector has been gaining momentum, with solar projects in North and East Africa and wind farms in Southern Africa drawing international attention, according to Reuters.

The EIB’s pledge complements ongoing efforts by multilateral development banks to mobilize private sector investment in green infrastructure across the continent.
