David Jonsson Cast as Prince T’Challa II in Marvel’s Black Panther 3

Marvel Studios has officially cast British actor David Jonsson as Prince T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa, in Black Panther 3. The announcement was made during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, with director Ryan Coogler confirming that the BAFTA Rising Star winner will lead the next chapter of the acclaimed franchise. The film is scheduled for release on 15 December 2028 and will continue the story of T’Challa’s son, who was first introduced as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as reported by Variety and Marvel Studios.

Jonsson, whose heritage includes Nigerian and Sierra Leonean roots, has gained international recognition through performances in Industry, Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk. Ryan Coogler said the upcoming film will follow Prince T’Challa II’s coming of age journey as he embraces his royal legacy and the mantle of Wakanda’s protector. “A privilege, an honour,” Jonsson wrote in a social media post following the announcement, expressing gratitude for joining one of Marvel’s most celebrated franchises.

The casting marks a significant moment for Marvel Studios as it continues the Black Panther legacy following the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. For the entertainment industry, Jonsson’s appointment reflects the studio’s commitment to developing a new generation of talent while preserving one of its most culturally influential franchises. The decision is also expected to strengthen the global appeal of the Black Panther series, which has become a landmark for African representation and storytelling in mainstream cinema.

Looking ahead, Black Panther 3 is expected to be one of Marvel’s biggest theatrical releases of 2028, with Ryan Coogler returning as director and several key cast members reprising their roles. Industry observers will be watching how Jonsson’s portrayal of Prince T’Challa II shapes the future of the Black Panther franchise and the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.
