Darlington Ahiale Akogo:  Africa’s Vanguard Voice in Artificial Intelligence and Health Tech

In the rising tide of Africa’s digital and technological revolution, few figures command attention quite like Darlington Ahiale Akogo. Visionary, technologist, and policy influencer, Akogo is shaping the future of healthcare, agriculture, and innovation governance across the continent, through the transformative lens of artificial intelligence.

At the forefront of this transformation is minoHealth AI Labs, the trailblazing company Akogo founded and now leads as its Director. Headquartered in Ghana, minoHealth is building AI-powered medical systems capable of automating diagnostic processes across multiple diseases; pneumonia, fibrosis, hernia, breast cancer, and more.

These tools are not merely theoretical. They’re deployed in clinics and hospitals, already delivering results with over 95% accuracy in some applications, drastically reducing diagnosis time and improving access to care in low-resource environments.

But Darlington’s vision has never been confined to one field. His extended ecosystem of innovation includes karaAgro AI, which develops AI tools for agriculture, helping farmers detect crop diseases and optimize yields and Runmila AI Institute, dedicated to advancing AI education and capacity-building across Africa.

Whether through direct impact or mentorship, Akogo is helping shape the next generation of data scientists, engineers, and African thinkers.

What elevates Akogo further is his influence on global and continental policy development. He currently chairs the ITU–WHO Focus Group on AI for Health’s Working Group on AI for Radiology, helping establish global benchmarks for AI use in medical diagnostics.

He also leads work streams on Artificial Intelligence for the African Union’s AI Economy Blueprint, a strategy designed to guide Africa’s integration into the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In recognition of his expansive influence and accomplishments, Darlington was named to Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 list, an accolade that nods not only to his entrepreneurial acumen but to his role in shaping Africa’s AI narrative on a global scale.

His voice has become a fixture on global platforms. From the MIT Media Lab to AI Expo Africa, and from NeurIPS to international development policy circles, Akogo is regularly called upon to share insights on everything from AI governance to ethical deployment frameworks.

His work has been featured in IEEE publications, international academic volumes, and journals exploring the convergence of AI, health, and sustainable development.

Yet, for all the accolades, Darlington remains anchored by a singular mission: to harness homegrown innovation for scalable, equitable solutions across Africa.

In his world, AI is not a distant frontier, it is a practical, deployable tool that can transform sectors burdened by limited infrastructure and wide inequality.

His leadership represents a paradigm shift. Africa is not only participating in the AI revolution, it is leading parts of it. With Darlington Ahiale Akogo at the helm, the conversation around technology in Africa is changing from consumption to creation, from dependence to direction.
