Bridging Africa’s Gender Digital Gap: Anurika Joshua’s Techy Train Initiative

(TECH) Despite Africa’s rapidly growing tech industry, a significant gender digital divide persists. Women across the continent, who make up nearly half the population, still struggle to access digital skills and job opportunities in the tech space.

This gap in access not only limits economic empowerment for women but also hinders the overall growth of Africa’s tech talent. In response, Excellence Anurika Joshua, a social entrepreneur, founded Techy Train Incubator in 2019 to address this pressing issue.

Techy Train Incubator (TTI) was born from Excellence Anurika Joshua’s vision of creating opportunities for African women in the technology sector.

Her company has been working to equip women with digital skills and place them in jobs across the tech industry. According to Anurika Joshua, the mission is to “bridge the gender divide and create a more inclusive digital landscape.”

The gender divide in Africa’s tech industry is striking, with women having far less access to the internet compared to men.

A recent World Bank report shows that only 24% of women in Africa have internet access, compared to 34% of men.

This limits their ability to learn digital skills and tap into opportunities in the growing global tech and remote work sectors.

Recognizing this gap, Techy Train Incubator set out to train and connect over 10,000 African women with opportunities in the global tech industry.

The organization’s unique approach combines skills training with job placement support, helping women not only develop technical abilities but also find jobs.

“We’re not just teaching women how to code or use digital tools,” says Excellence Anurika Joshua. “We’re connecting them with real job opportunities that allow them to support themselves and their families.”

Excellence Anurika Joshua’s work with Techy Train Incubator goes beyond technical training.

Her organization also emphasizes the development of soft skills, such as communication and adaptability, to help women thrive in the tech world.

“We want our trainees to be well-rounded professionals who can excel in any work environment,” she explains.

Through Techy Train Incubator, Excellence Anurika Joshua is helping to transform the future of African women in tech, making strides toward closing the gender digital divide and opening doors to economic empowerment for thousands of women across the continent.
