The Nigeria Customs Service has set a N9 trillion revenue target for 2026, building on a record-breaking 2025 performance that saw collections surpass N7.28 trillion, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi announced, as reported in The Nation Nigeria.
In 2025, Customs exceeded its N6.58 trillion target by more than 10 percent, driven by tighter enforcement, improved compliance, and expanded use of digital systems at ports and border stations, according to Arise TV.
Looking ahead, Adeniyi said the agency will leverage technology to curb cargo diversion and revenue leakages while enhancing trade facilitation to encourage legitimate imports and exports. Stronger stakeholder compliance and operational efficiency are central to achieving the N9 trillion goal.
The ambitious target aligns with Nigeria’s broader push to strengthen non-oil revenue collection and improve fiscal sustainability, complementing ongoing reforms in tax administration and border management, Guardian Nigeria noted.
