Ire Aderinokun Shaping Africa’s Digital Future Through Technology and Inclusion

Ire Aderinokun is a pioneering Nigerian technologist, entrepreneur, and advocate whose work has helped advance digital innovation and inclusivity across Africa. Known for her expertise in front-end development and her commitment to empowering the next generation of tech leaders, she has established herself as one of the continent’s most influential voices in technology.

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Aderinokun began her journey in technology at the age of 13, creating her first website and teaching herself HTML. This early curiosity evolved into a lifelong passion for building digital solutions that are accessible and impactful. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology and a Master’s degree in law from the University of Bristol, UK, where she refined her analytical skills and developed a global perspective that would shape her career.

Aderinokun is widely recognised as Nigeria’s first female Google Developer Expert in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, an accolade that reflects both her technical mastery and her leadership in the developer community. She shares her knowledge through Bits of Code, a blog offering tutorials and insights that make complex programming concepts approachable for aspiring developers.

As co-founder, Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President of Engineering at Helicarrier, a Y Combinator-backed technology company, Aderinokun oversees products such as BuyCoins, Sendcash, and Sendcash Pay. These platforms expand financial access and digital payments across Africa, demonstrating her commitment to using technology to create meaningful impact.

Beyond her entrepreneurial work, she actively fosters community growth and inclusion. She organises Frontstack, a conference dedicated to front-end engineering, and sponsors scholarships for Nigerian women to acquire advanced tech skills, including Udacity Nanodegree programs. She is also a founding member of the Feminist Coalition, advocating for women’s rights and equality in Nigeria.
