Telkom Reports 16.4 Percent Increase in Interim Profit as Cost Controls and Mobile Growth Strengthen Performance

South African telecommunications operator Telkom posted a 16.4 percent rise in interim profit, supported by stronger mobile revenue and tighter cost management. The company’s results, shared in its mid-year financial statement, were highlighted by Reuters, which noted that Telkom’s renewed focus on efficiency and its expanding mobile customer base helped lift overall earnings.

The company said mobile service revenue continued to outpace expectations, driven by rising data usage and improved network capacity. Telkom’s leadership added that ongoing turnaround measures were beginning to reflect positively on profitability. “We are seeing the benefits of disciplined execution and improved commercial momentum across the business,” executives said in remarks cited by Bloomberg.

Industry analysts told Business Day that Telkom’s performance signals steady recovery in South Africa’s competitive telecom market, where operators are being pushed to balance infrastructure investment with affordability demands from consumers. The latest earnings also position Telkom to accelerate its broader restructuring plan, which includes optimizing its wholesale and broadband units.
