Prof. Naana Jane Becomes First Female Ghanaian Vice President to Address AU Forum

Ghana’s Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has made history as the first woman to represent the country at an African Union–aligned platform, delivering a keynote at the 2025 Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Accra. Her speech emphasized the urgency of infrastructure investment as the cornerstone for Africa’s integration and growth, GBC Ghana highlighted.

Speaking under the theme “Delivering Africa’s Single Markets Through Infrastructure, Invest, Connect, Integrate,” Opoku-Agyemang urged African leaders to deepen collaboration, arguing that collective prosperity can only be realized when barriers to trade, transport, and connectivity are dismantled. This intervention was detailed in local coverage of the event.

Observers point out that her participation not only underscores Ghana’s growing role in shaping continental policy but also reflects a shift toward more inclusive governance. They contend that her engagement on AU priorities could strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic standing while advancing opportunities for infrastructure-led investment.
