Kenya Strikes $175,000-a-Month Lobbying Deal in Washington to Bolster U.S. Ties

Kenya has entered into a $175,000-per-month lobbying agreement with U.S.-based Continental Strategy LLC as part of efforts to deepen its trade and diplomatic engagement with Washington. The contract, valued at $2.1 million annually, was signed on August 6, 2025, and registered with the U.S. Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) two days later, filings revealed as reported by Citizen Digital.

The arrangement appoints Dr. Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Kenya’s point of contact. Continental Strategy, led by Carlos Trujillo, a former U.S. ambassador during the Trump administration, is tasked with conducting “informational campaigns” and targeted outreach to U.S. policymakers on behalf of Nairobi, according to Radio Dalsan.

In remarks carried by The Standard, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi defended the deal as a “strategic investment”, stating that it was both lawful and transparent, and noting that structured lobbying is standard practice among governments seeking to shape foreign policy outcomes. He emphasized that the partnership will help secure Kenya’s interests in post-AGOA trade talks and strengthen its diplomatic profile, including its role in global peacekeeping initiatives.

Industry analysts highlighted by O’Dwyer PR indicated that the scale of the deal reflects Nairobi’s growing recognition of Washington’s influence on African trade and investment flows. The agreement renews automatically unless terminated with a 30-day notice, underscoring Kenya’s commitment to a sustained lobbying effort.

While critics have questioned the timing and cost of the lobbying amid fiscal strains, supporters within government argue that the deal strengthens Kenya’s competitive edge in advancing economic and diplomatic priorities in the U.S. market.
