Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said Ukraine is exploring plans to import natural gas from Mozambique, as Kyiv looks to diversify energy sources amid ongoing disruptions to domestic production, according to Reuters.
The proposal follows talks with Mozambique’s leadership and comes as Ukraine’s gas output has been cut by roughly half due to sustained attacks on energy infrastructure, forcing the country to seek alternative supply routes ahead of future heating seasons.
Mozambique, one of Africa’s emerging gas producers, is ramping up its liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity through major projects, positioning itself as a potential long-term supplier to global markets, including Europe.
Bloomberg says the move highlights Ukraine’s broader strategy to diversify energy imports beyond traditional suppliers, as it continues to rebuild its energy system and strengthen resilience in the face of prolonged geopolitical and infrastructure challenges.
