Wizkid Set to Open Detty December Fest as Lagos Bets Big on 2026 Tourism Economy

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid will headline the opening concert of the 2026 Detty December Fest in Lagos, giving the festival a major commercial draw as it expands into a 13 day entertainment programme. Organisers, Livespot360, confirmed that Wizkid will perform on December 18 at the Detty Festival Stage, marking the first major headliner announcement for this year’s edition. The festival will run from December 18 to 30, as reported by Billboard and ChannelsTv.

The 2026 edition will introduce a second performance platform, the Detty Pulse Stage, alongside the main Festival Stage. The additional space will focus on emerging African artists, new sounds and cultural programming, while the wider festival will feature music, nightlife, food, fashion, family experiences and other entertainment activities. The inaugural 2025 edition attracted more than 40,000 attendees, establishing the event as a significant addition to Lagos’ December entertainment calendar.

Wizkid’s involvement strengthens the festival’s commercial appeal at a time when Lagos continues to position its December entertainment season as a major tourism and creative economy opportunity. For brands, hospitality businesses, travel operators and event companies, a headline performance by one of Africa’s most globally recognised artists can drive international visitor interest, ticket sales, sponsorship opportunities and consumer spending across the wider ecosystem. The festival’s expansion also creates additional platforms for emerging African talent.

Looking ahead, further headliners are expected to be announced, while the festival’s 13 day format gives organisers greater scope to build partnerships across entertainment, hospitality, fashion, food and tourism. With Wizkid opening the programme, the 2026 edition is positioned to compete for a larger share of Lagos’ year end visitor economy and further establish Detty December Fest as a major African entertainment property.
