TikTok to Build Second €1 Billion Data Centre in Finland

TikTok is set to build a second €1 billion data centre in Finland, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Europe’s digital infrastructure and data security framework, as reported by Reuters.

The new facility will be located in Lahti, southern Finland, with an initial capacity of 50 megawatts, scalable to 128 megawatts, reflecting the platform’s growing data storage and processing needs across the region.

This investment forms part of TikTok’s broader €12 billion European data localisation initiative, aimed at ensuring that data from more than 200 million European users is stored within the region under stricter regulatory safeguards, according to Financial Times.

The move follows earlier plans for the company’s first Finnish data centre, signalling an accelerated push to localise data operations amid increasing scrutiny from European regulators over privacy and security concerns.

Finland’s cool climate, access to renewable energy, and stable regulatory environment continue to attract major global tech investments, positioning the country as a leading hub for sustainable data infrastructure.
