Nigerian screen veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has made a special guest appearance in Netflix’s revival of the American television classic A Different World. The 10 episode series premiered on Netflix on September 24, 2026, returning audiences to Hillman College nearly four decades after the original NBC sitcom ended its six season run in 1993. Mofe-Damijo appears in one episode as Chukwu, joining returning stars including Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison and Cree Summer, alongside a new generation of actors led by Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
The appearance adds another major international credit to Mofe-Damijo’s long career across Nigerian film, television and production. RMD has increasingly featured in projects that connect Nollywood talent with global audiences, with his international credits including Netflix’s The Black Book and his upcoming role in Children of Blood and Bone, the Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s acclaimed fantasy novel. The latter, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, features an international cast including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Damson Idris, with Mofe-Damijo among the Nigerian actors attached to the production.
RMD’s appearance in A Different World also reflects the increasing movement of established African actors into globally distributed productions, giving Nigerian screen talent opportunities to participate in major international franchises while bringing African representation into stories with established cultural audiences. The Netflix revival is created and executive produced by Felicia Pride, with Debbie Allen, who starred in the original series, serving as an executive producer and directing the premiere. For Mofe-Damijo, the role further extends a career spanning decades and demonstrates the continued international relevance of veteran Nollywood talent across film and television.
