Naomi Osaka Channels Allen Iverson With Bold Basketball Inspired US Open Look

Naomi Osaka turned her US Open entrance into a tribute to NBA icon Allen Iverson, arriving at Arthur Ashe Stadium in a dramatic gray hooded robe featuring newspaper clippings about her career before revealing a black tennis outfit, cornrows and a headband inspired by Iverson’s signature style, according to Japan Today.

The custom look was created by Who Decides War and styled by Law Roach, drawing directly from Iverson’s iconic gray sweats and his influence on sports fashion. Osaka has described Iverson as a trailblazer who helped reshape how athletes express themselves through clothing.

Iverson himself responded to the tribute on Instagram, calling it an honour and saying he was a big fan and looked forward to meeting Osaka. The fashion statement also carried into her performance, as the 13th seed defeated Anastasia Zakharova 7 6, 7 6 in a hard fought first round match to advance.

For Osaka, the look is another example of how she has turned Grand Slam fashion into a platform for sport, identity and cultural storytelling, using her tournament appearances to connect tennis with wider influences from music, fashion and basketball.
