Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba has assumed direct control of the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Industry following a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening oversight of the country’s rapidly expanding resource sector. The announcement was made on Thursday in Windhoek, as reported by The Namibian and Bloomberg.
The move comes at a time when Namibia is emerging as one of Africa’s most attractive destinations for green hydrogen and oil exploration investments. President Mbumba said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring strategic coordination across key economic ministries and accelerating policy implementation in the energy and mining sectors.
“The ministry plays a critical role in shaping Namibia’s economic future, and it is essential that we maintain strong leadership and accountability as we pursue our industrialisation goals,” Mbumba stated during the announcement at State House.
Analysts say the president’s direct involvement signals a bid to fast-track reforms and investor relations as global interest grows in Namibia’s oil, gas, and renewable energy industries. The government’s recent partnerships with international firms, including Shell and TotalEnergies, have positioned the country for sustained growth in the coming decade.
