‘My Indian Boyfriend: The Golden Mile’ Secures U.K. and Ireland Theatrical Distribution

Upcoming British romantic drama “My Indian Boyfriend: The Golden Mile” has secured a theatrical distribution deal across the United Kingdom and Ireland, with RFT Films acquiring distribution rights ahead of the film’s production. According to Variety, the agreement marks an important commercial milestone for the independent feature, positioning it for a wide cinema release in both markets following completion. The film brings together production partners and talent from the United Kingdom, India, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, reflecting the increasingly international nature of independent filmmaking.

Directed by Vijay Chauhan and produced by Hiu Man Chan, the film is set against the vibrant backdrop of Leicester’s Golden Mile, home to one of the largest Indian communities outside South Asia. The story explores themes of love, cultural identity, and family through a cross-cultural romance unfolding during the city’s renowned Diwali celebrations. Producers said the project aims to celebrate Britain’s multicultural society while highlighting the shared traditions that connect communities across generations.

RFT Films, which has built a strong reputation distributing South Asian cinema across the United Kingdom and Europe, described the acquisition as part of its strategy to expand beyond regional-language productions into internationally appealing stories with broader commercial potential. The distributor said the film’s universal themes and multicultural setting make it well suited to audiences across Britain and Ireland, particularly in cities with large South Asian communities.

For the independent film industry, the distribution agreement underscores growing demand for culturally diverse stories that resonate with global audiences. Industry observers say the project reflects the increasing appetite for cross-border collaborations and diaspora-driven storytelling, strengthening the commercial prospects of independent productions while broadening representation within mainstream cinema.
