Egypt Expects Remaining €4 Billion EU Financial Support by 2027

Egypt expects to receive the remaining €4 billion of its European Union macro financial assistance package by 2027, following the earlier disbursement of an initial €1 billion tranche, government officials said. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said the next portion of the funds could arrive within days, noting that the release is tied to Egypt’s completion of key reviews under its International Monetary Fund programme, as reported by Reuters.

The financing forms part of a broader €7.4 billion EU support package agreed in 2024, which includes grants, investments and concessional loans aimed at stabilising Egypt’s economy and supporting structural reforms. Of this amount, €5 billion was earmarked as macro financial assistance, with disbursements structured in stages and linked to policy benchmarks, according to statements from EU officials and Egypt’s foreign ministry.

The European Union has positioned the package as a strategic economic partnership designed to help Egypt manage fiscal pressures, bolster foreign currency inflows and sustain reform momentum amid regional instability and global economic headwinds. EU representatives have said the funding is intended to strengthen economic resilience, support public finance reforms and encourage private sector growth.

Egyptian authorities have reiterated that the phased release of the remaining funds through 2027 will support macroeconomic stability and complement ongoing IMF backed reforms, reinforcing confidence among international partners and investors, officials said in comments cited by Reuters and Egypt’s foreign ministry.
