In a world where content is often fleeting and influence can be shallow, Dr. Chinonso Fidelis Egemba, better known to millions as Aproko Doctor, has created a lasting movement rooted in truth, empathy, and the urgent need for accessible healthcare.
Since first showing up on screens in 2017 with his humorous, informative videos, Egemba has become one of Nigeria’s most powerful digital voices for public health. Now, with the launch of his healthcare innovation platform, AwaDoc, he’s not just educating Nigerians, he’s transforming how they access care.
Born in Imo State on October 26, 1990, Egemba’s life has always been guided by service. A graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he earned his MBBS, he entered the medical field with an understanding that good health shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the few, it should be a right made possible for the many.
After completing his early medical career at the Imo State Teaching Hospital and moving to Lagos in 2017, he noticed a troubling pattern: health literacy was dangerously low. So, he pivoted not from medicine, but from traditional methods of reaching patients.
The “Aproko Doctor” persona was born out of this pivot. Leveraging Nigerian Pidgin and local humor, Egemba created short, punchy videos using fictional but familiar characters like Nkechi and Emeka.
Through these light-hearted yet powerful skits, he brought life-saving medical information to screens across the continent and beyond. From blood pressure and diet myths to mental health and sexual wellness, no topic was too complex or taboo.
But Aproko Doctor is not just a content creator. He is a public health crusader. In 2020, he launched the 100K Club, a nonprofit that helps Nigerians in need access life-saving healthcare through crowdfunding and donations.
His advocacy spans digital campaigns, hospital support, and frontline education. In recognition of this work, Egemba has received several honors, including the Pulse Influencer Award and the Trendupp Africa Force of Wellness award.
In late 2022, Egemba’s message took on new gravity when he revealed he had undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor, a craniopharyngioma. Diagnosed months earlier after experiencing sudden visual loss, he used the terrifying experience not to retreat, but to speak out.
He became his own case study, reminding followers to listen to their bodies and never delay medical evaluation. That vulnerability made his message even more potent: even doctors get sick, but early action saves lives.
Now, in 2025, Egemba is ushering in a new era of digital health transformation with the launch of AwaDoc, an on-demand health consultation platform designed to give Nigerians access to licensed doctors within minutes. With AwaDoc, users can request health advice, book appointments, and get prescriptions all through an intuitive mobile app.
In a country where millions struggle with access to basic healthcare and long wait times in overwhelmed clinics, AwaDoc offers a real-time, dignified solution. It isn’t just telemedicine, it’s telemedicine with cultural context and human understanding.
Egemba’s vision for AwaDoc is ambitious but grounded. “Healthcare should not be a luxury,” he says. “We want people in Aba, Maiduguri, Lagos, and even in the most rural communities to know that they can speak to a doctor who listens, understands, and cares, without breaking the bank.”
Away from the screen, Egemba is also a husband, married to Chiamaka Nwakalor (Chef Amaka), a fellow health advocate. Together, they use their platform to amplify health equity and champion preventive care, often appearing in public campaigns, media tours, and community outreach programs.
In a time when misinformation threatens to unravel the social fabric of public health, Aproko Doctor is a rare force: credible, compassionate, and unwavering.
Whether through a 60-second reel or the groundbreaking AwaDoc platform, Chinonso Fidelis Egemba is giving power back to the people, one tip, one app, and one truth at a time.
