Adeleke Secures Second Term in Osun as Accord Wins Governorship Poll

Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected as Governor of Osun State, securing a second four year term after winning the August 15, 2026 governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, as reported by Premium Times and ChannelsTv. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who recorded 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

The result marks a significant political shift for Accord, which secured its first governorship victory in Osun State. Adeleke, who originally won the governorship in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party, defected to Accord in December 2025 before seeking re-election under the party. The 2026 election involved 15 political parties and concluded with INEC formally announcing the result in Osogbo on August 16.

Adeleke’s victory gives his administration another four years to pursue its economic and development agenda in Osun, while also strengthening Accord’s political standing ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The governor has said his administration intends to move the state beyond its traditional dependence on the civil service towards a more commercially driven economy, with infrastructure, education and agriculture among the areas highlighted following his re-election.

The outcome will now shift attention towards Adeleke’s second term and whether his administration can convert its electoral mandate into stronger economic activity, investment and job creation across the state. For Accord, the Osun victory also provides an important platform for expanding its national political relevance ahead of the next general election cycle.
