Morocco to Open Nador West Med Port in Q4 2026

Morocco plans to begin operations at its Nador West Med deep-water port in the fourth quarter of 2026, a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening the country’s position in Mediterranean and global maritime trade. The timeline was confirmed by Moroccan officials, as reported by Reuters.

The port, located near the Algerian border on the Mediterranean coast, is being developed as an integrated logistics and industrial hub, with total public and private investment estimated at over $5 billion, Reuters reported. Key infrastructure, including breakwaters, quays and port basins, has already been completed, while terminal concessions have been awarded to international operators.

Nador West Med is designed to handle container traffic, hydrocarbons, bulk cargo and energy products, including liquefied natural gas, as part of Morocco’s broader strategy to diversify trade routes and expand port capacity. Officials said the project will complement the Tanger Med port and support industrial development in the country’s northeast, according to Reuters.

Once operational, the port is expected to boost exports, attract foreign investment and strengthen Morocco’s role as a regional logistics gateway linking Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The project aligns with Morocco’s long-term transport and industrial strategy aimed at supporting economic growth and job creation, Reuters reported.
