The United States has delivered critical military supplies to Nigerian security forces, reinforcing a growing bilateral security partnership aimed at supporting counter-terrorism and national security operations, AFRICOM said in a statement. The handover took place in Abuja and underscores the ongoing collaboration between Washington and Abuja amid persistent threats from insurgent and criminal groups across Nigeria, as reported by PRNigeria.
AFRICOM noted that the supplies were provided to Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies, highlighting support for military operations without direct U.S. combat involvement. While the specific nature and quantity of the equipment were not disclosed, officials emphasized that the delivery reflects longstanding defence cooperation.
The delivery coincides with intensified joint efforts to address terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism, including coordinated airstrikes against Islamic State-linked militants in Sokoto State. Both nations have also enhanced intelligence sharing and strategic coordination to improve operational effectiveness, according to TV360Nigeria.
Officials from Abuja and Washington described the expanded assistance as part of a mutual commitment to regional stability, with Nigeria reaffirming its priority to protect civilians and strengthen its military capacity through international partnerships.
