Nigeria Tops Africa’s Oil Exports to U.S., Sends $2.57 Billion in Crude Over Eight Months

Nigeria has emerged as Africa’s leading oil supplier to the United States, exporting crude worth $2.57 billion over the first eight months of 2025, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The figures reflect a surge in demand for Nigerian crude amid global market shifts and supply constraints from other regions. Analysts say Nigeria’s competitive pricing and consistent production have reinforced its position in the U.S. market, according to Bloomberg.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) highlighted that these exports are part of ongoing efforts to maximize revenue from crude sales and strengthen bilateral trade ties with the United States, as reported by Reuters.

Industry experts note that the trend could provide a buffer for Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy while offering U.S. refiners a stable source of light sweet crude amid ongoing global energy volatility, according to the Financial Times.
