The House of Wonders, Zanzibar

Standing gracefully on Stone Town’s historic seafront, the House of Wonders remains one of Zanzibar’s most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Swahili and colonial architecture. Built in 1883 by Sultan Barghash bin Said, it was the first building in East Africa to feature electricity and an elevator, a symbol of innovation and grandeur in its time.
